Elisaveta Blumina: Concert Pianist, Conductor, Multitalented Artist, Organizer, and
Artistic Director...
Elisaveta Blumina studied piano and conducting at the St. Petersburg Conservatory with Prof.
Ilya Musin. She later transferred to the Hamburg University of Music and the Conservatory in
Bern to complete her concert exam with Andras Schiff.
As a piano soloist and chamber musician, Elisaveta Blumina is a welcome guest in Carnegie
Hall in New York, the Elbphilharmonie and Hamburg's Laeiszhalle, the Berlin Philharmonie, the
Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Gasteig in Munich, the
Konzerthaus Berlin, the Beethovenhalle Bonn, and the National Concert Hall in Dublin, as well
as at festivals like Verbier, Colmar, Lockenhaus, and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival. As a
pianist, she regularly performs with major orchestras, including the Dresden Philharmonic,
Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Malaysian Philharmonic
Orchestra, Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia,
Staatskapelle Halle, the RTE Orchestra in Dublin, as well as the Moscow Virtuosi, with
conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Yuri Temirkanov, Oliver Weder, Gabriel Bebeselea,
Vladimir Spivakov, and Thomas Sanderling.
The list of her chamber music partners reads like the “who’s who” of the classical world.
Elisaveta Blumina's almost 40 CDs are recognized as exceptional achievements, not only in the
professional world but also awarded prizes such as the "ECHO" and "Opus Klassik," as well as
being nominated for the German Record Critics' Prize. Elisaveta Blumina is one of the
most-listened-to musicians on Spotify and other social networks. Her CD recordings reach more
than 500,000 listeners each month.
Her love for chamber music led her early on to conduct larger chamber ensembles as well. She
gained her first conducting experience with the chamber orchestra of the "Tzfat Music Festival"
in Israel and the string ensemble of the Saxon State Orchestra at the International Shostakovich
Days in Gohrisch. Conducting from the piano, she performed with the Staatskapelle Halle,
Robert Schumann Philharmonie Chemnitz, Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt (BSOF), and
the National Symphony Orchestra in Dublin. In Drogheda, Ireland, she played and conducted a
world premiere by New York composer John Zorn.
The invitation from the Robert Schumann Philharmonic to lead a CD recording in Chemnitz in
2021 strengthened Elisaveta Blumina's desire to conduct more in the future. Her mentors Vitali
Alekseenok, Vladimir Jurowski, and Catherine Larsen-Maquire have been very supportive in
this. In the coming seasons, she will conduct the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Robert
Schumann Philharmonie, as well as several chamber orchestras and ensembles. With the Israel
Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, she will conduct her
educational project "Farbenspiele." Other concerts on her schedule include the Johannesburg
Philharmonic and Kwa Zulu Natal Philharmonic in Durban.
Elisaveta Blumina speaks six languages fluently; she is also a synesthete: she sees sounds in
colors (and vice versa). She often paints pictures during the process of studying new (musical)
works. These pictures can then be exhibited or projected in concerts. Another talent, namely
dancing, also belongs to Elisaveta Blumina's spectrum of expression. In her childhood, she
attended the Vaganova Ballet Academy but ultimately chose to study music due to her projected
height. For an education project with the Brandenburg State Orchestra, she choreographed
some pieces for the participating school classes, and these choreographies were then
performed on stage by the children while she conducted the BSOF.

For Elisaveta Blumina, it is an important goal to fill concert halls with young people, to make
audiences younger and more diverse. A crucial part of Elisaveta's work is promoting young
musicians. She initiated the association "Berliner Entdeckungen" to support highly gifted
children and founded the "Young Ensemble of the Hamburg International Chamber Music
Festival." As artistic director of the Hamburg Chamber Music Festival (since 2011), she brings
international competition prizewinners together to make music with the Orchestra Academy of
the Staatskapelle Berlin and both major Berlin music universities. Upcoming concerts with the
ensemble include performances in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg under Elisaveta Blumina's
direction.
